This Management Plan for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Populations (Management Plan) has been developed by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group on COVID-19 and endorsed by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC).
It is expected that the Management Plan will be a living document that will be periodically updated to support and meet the objectives of the Australian Health Sector Emergency Response Plan for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) (the Health Sector Plan).
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group on COVID-19 (the Taskforce) have been meeting regularly to discuss and prepare for culturally appropriate and consistent advice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services and Communities to provide the swift response required to address COVID-19.
Co-chaired by the Department of Health and the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO), the taskforce includes Public Health Medical Officers and leaders from the Aboriginal Community Controlled Sector, Aboriginal Health Services, state and territory government public health and medical officials, Aboriginal communicable disease experts, the Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association and the National Indigenous Australians Agency.
Update 29 May
Easing restrictions doesn’t mean we have beaten the virus. The virus is still spreading in the community. We must continue to:
- practise physical distancing (staying two big steps away from people wherever we can)
- maintain good hand washing and hygiene
- stay home when we’re unwell
- get tested if we have cold or flu-like symptoms
- download the COVIDSafe app
- make sure our workplaces are safe for employees.
By doing all of these things we can continue to #KeepOurMobSafe
